How do you know when you’ve made it? »

One of my recommended ways of making money is by blogging.  With blogging there are a lot of different ways that you can use it to earn money.  The most common way to make money from blogging is from Google Adsense.  You put Google advertising on your site and when people click on the ads you earn money.  It’s that simple.  You can also monetize your blog through other advertising networks like Chitika, Yahoo Publishing Network and others as well.  Affiliate marketing is also popular through links on blogs.

All this is great, but if your blog doesn’t have many readers you won’t make very much!  Well, if you just stick with the game and keep putting in time to improve your blog, after you build it up, you will gain more and more traffic.  Remember what the ghosts kept telling Kevin Costner in Field of DreamsIf you build it, they will come!  That applies to your blog too.   Keep working, and also read other blogs to learn more about promoting your own!  Readers will come, especially if you can show that you have some expertise about the thing you are writing about.  One of my favorite mottos is:  If you do what you are passionate about, the money will follow.

So, how do you know when you’ve made it in the Blogging game?  I have two indicators that tell me a Blog has gained a decent amount of readership:

  1. If your blog has more comments than it has posts.  For the first months (and months) that you blog, you won’t get many comments, if any at all!  But, when you get to the point where you have more comments than blog posts, then you know that you are successful!  For example, one of my blogs has really began to take off in recent months.  At this point, that blog has about 1500 posts on it.  It also has over 2300 comments!  So, it’s a measured success!
  2. When you start getting a lot of comment spam, that means that you’ve made it!  But, who wants comment spam?  Well, there are plug ins and filters to take care of that, but when you can see that you are getting dozens or hundreds of comment spams, that means that the comment spammers feel that your site is relevant enough that they can make money by spamming it.  If it’s good enough for spammers to be able to earn from YOUR blog, you should also be able to earn a living from it!

Good luck with your blogging!  And remember, don’t quit too soon… it takes time!

Learning the ins and outs of Adsense »

You know, I use Google Adsense to monetize a number of blogs, and I have been happy with the results.  I have been able to reach a point where my daily earnings on Adsense are enough to significantly supplement my earnings from other sources, and I am still relatively young at the Adsense game.

As I make adjustments to my Adsense placements and other factors in order to improve earnings, I am really learning.  I spent the past months working on improving the number of ad views that I could attract.  The more that people saw the ads, the more clicks I would get, resulting in more income, right?  Well, that is true.  But, I have learned that there are other ways to improve that income too.

For the past few weeks, I have been closely watching how much I am getting per click, instead of how many clicks I am getting.  I mean, I am learning now that I can get only half the clicks, but if I am attracting higher paying ads, my income can be more!  And, I am learning strategies that are paying off and helping me get higher values for each click.  I can also see that at certain times of the day, click values are higher than at others.

So, if you are working on improving your Adsense earnings, keep in mind that you need to keep many different factors in mind, and optimize each of those factors in order to really get optimal value from Adsense!

Do you have to work to make money? »

What do you think? Do you have to work to make money? I’m not talking about earning interest on money you already have, or getting stock dividends. Nothing like that…. I mean that if you have no money and need to earn some, so you have to work?

Well, of course you do!

Right?

Well, sort of.

I am not a rich person, I don’t have a bunch of family wealth filling my drawers with money. I have to earn the money that I need to keep my kids in school, keep dinner on my family’s table, etc. But, when I think about it, I don’t really feel like I work. I am sitting here in my office on the second floor of my house right now. Next door, they are building a new house. I see a bunch of construction workers carrying around stuff, pushing wheelbarrows, doing all kinds of manual labor. Yet, I am sitting here typing, and am probably earning more than most of the crew combined. Sometimes I feel a little guilty when I think about that. However, what I do is not exclusive. It’s not limited to just me. Anybody can do it!

So, you ask, how do I earn my money? I earn my money on the internet through a variety of methods. OK, now you are thinking that this is some kind of “get rich quick” scheme, and I am going to be asking for your credit card number soon, right? Nope. Ain’t gonna happen! I don’t want or need your credit card, because I am not selling you anything. I just want to teach some people how they too can earn a good living without having to go out and work!

The actual ways that I earn my money are two-fold. The method that I’ve been doing the longest and is the most profitable for me is through a number of e-Commerce websites that I own and operate. A lot of you know what e-Commerce is, but maybe some don’t. e-Commerce means selling things through the Internet. Don’t worry… I already told you, I am not going to ask you to buy anything! I have several different specialty stores on the Internet that sell products, which I ship to customers all over the world! By doing this kind of business, I have been able to earn more money now than I ever did when I went to my “regular” job. And, now I am working on another way of earning money too - by publishing content on the Internet! What does that mean? Well, I publish information - like this information that you are reading - on the Internet for free, but I have advertising on my websites, and the ads help me earn money. I just started with trying to earn money through content websites last year, and so far it is doing well. I know it can do better, so I am working on creating more content, improving the ways that I present my sites, etc.

Hang around this blog, and I will start showing you how to do it yourself! You don’t have to buy anything… you don’t have to send me any money…. just devote a few minutes a day to read. Then, when you are ready start devoting more time so that you can duplicate what I teach you here on the “Virtual Earner” blog!
